The 9th International Symposium on Interventional MRI, hosted by Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Johns Hopkins University, and University of Leipzig, was held at Joseph B. Martin Conference at Harvard Medical School on September 22nd and 23rd, 2012.
During the biennial meeting, more than 250 scientists and physicians from all over the world came to Harvard to exchange their latest research results in the MRI-guided therapy field, and many companies also shared with researchers of their new products. Symbow Medical also presented its novel MRI-compatible Megrez® navigation system. Dr. Lei Zhao of Symbow Medical gave an oral presentation on his research using open MRI guided navigation suite for cancer ablation treatment. The audience showed a great interest in Dr. Zhao’s talk and gave very positive feedbacks.
All conference attendees visited the state-of-the-art AMIGO (Advanced Multimodality Image Guided Operating) suite in Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Staff in AMIGO gave a detailed explanation of the unique features and clinical advantages of Symbow Medical’s Megrez® navigation system in AMIGO. Megrez® is the only system that is true MRI compatible. With the help of Megrez®, Harvard doctors can perform minimally invasive therapy procedures such as biopsy and DBS implant inside or right by the 3T scanner in the MRI room. Such setup allows real-time or more frequent MRI scans to update the spatial relationship of the anatomy and surgical tools in order to provide more efficient, more accurate and safer surgical guidance. Megrez® works with the PET/CT system in AMIGO for combined anatomic and functional imaging guided interventions. The introduction of Megrez® navigation to the AMIGO suite allows broader clinical applications for Harvard physician.
