Dual Modality Breast Imager with DOT and Ultrasound
Breast cancer is a kind of cancer that develops from breast cells. Breast cancer usually starts off in the inner lining of milk ducts or the lobules that supply them with milk. A malignant tumor can spread to other parts of the body. A breast cancer that started off in the lobules is known as lobular carcinoma, while one that developed from the ducts is called ductal carcinoma.
Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer in females worldwide. It accounts for 16% of all female cancers and 22.9% of invasive cancers in women. 18.2% of all cancer deaths worldwide, including both males and females, are from breast cancer.
Based on more than 10 years collaboration with University of Connecticut, USA, Symbow Medical System successfully developed the world unique dual modality breast imaging system, OPTIMUS Protected by the USA and Chinese patents, OPTIMUS provides both morphologic and functional information of the breast using ultrasonic imaging (US) and diffusion optical tomography (DOT) on one system. Based on the data of more than 100k clinical cases, OPTIMUS has been proved an easy to use and reliable device for screening and early breast cancer detection.

Diffusion Optical Tomography
known as DOT, is one of the most advanced optical imaging technologies at present.DOT can quantitatively analyze tissue metabolism by directly imaging hemoglobin and its oxygenation distribution. Abnormality of the hemoglobin distribution would link directly to angiogenesis, a bio-marker for early breast cancer.

Dual Modality Imaging
DOT provides quantitative functional information of a breast while ultrasound provides morphologic and localization information. The combination of both modalities enables a comprehensive diagnosis of the breast. OPTIMUS automatically segments lesion targets on ultrasound images and automatically quantifies hemoglobin distribution, rendering OPTIMUS to be an ideal device for breast screening and early breast cancer detection.
